Indications

Tyloxapol is primarily indicated for use as an inhaled surfactant that facilitates the liquefaction and clearance of bronchopulmonary secretions comprised of mucus and pus. It is typically administered via a nebulized solution or directly through a stream of oxygen. Furthermore, Tyloxapol has been explored for potential applications in treating conditions such as cystic fibrosis and in pediatric patient populations.

Pharmacodynamics

As a surfactant, Tyloxapol plays a crucial role in aiding the liquefaction and removal of mucopurulent bronchopulmonary secretions. Additionally, Tyloxapol has the capacity to inhibit plasma lipolytic activity, thereby preventing the breakdown of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.

Mechanism of Action

Tyloxapol, when administered intraperitoneally, effectively inhibits plasma lipolytic activity, thereby impeding the catabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. Furthermore, it functions as an inhibitor of lipoprotein lipase, consequently preventing the cellular uptake of triglycerides.
